The Newman Family
Isn't this a great looking group of guys! This is the Newman family. A family that is more than familiar with quality cigar making. In 1895 the M & N Cigar Manufacturers, Inc. was founded by J.C. Newman in Tampa, Florida. Today, they continue their family tradition of producing quality premium cigars for people like you and me. Two of their top selling brands on the market today are Cuesta-Rey and La Unica, both produced in the Dominican Republic by the Fuentes. In 1995 the Newman tradition of cigar making celebrated its 100th anniversary by introducing another great cigar, the Diamond Crown. This line of cigars which commemorates their anniversary was accompanied by the introduction of Diamond Crown Humidors which are wonderfully hand-crafted works of art.
J.C. Newman's son Stanford, sadly died on August 17th, 2006. Stanford carried on his father's love and passion for quality cigar making for over sixty years. He was the chairman of the board for the J.C. Newman Cigar Company. Stanford Newman was a giant in the cigar industry for decades. He was fortunate to see and experience some of the most remarkable times in the cigar industry; from the days of old when 5 cent cigars were prominent to all the happenings of the cigar boom that unfolded in the 1990's, and everything in between.
Stanford's son Eric, (right) is the president of the J.C. Newman Cigar Company. He oversees all operations for Newman.
Stanford's son Robert, or Bobby as most of us know him, (left) is executive vice president, sales and marketing for the J.C. Newman Cigar Company. He is responsible for all sales at Newman, overseeing a large sales force that supplies tobacconists across the nation.
Let me tell you, this is one of the kindest families I have ever had the privilege of getting to know and associating with. They are some of the greatest people you could ever meet. I am blessed in the sense that I get to see them at every Big Smoke, as well as having the opportunity to socialize with them as often as I can. One of the most visible things about their kindness is in the fact that it has been handed on from generation to generation. It should not surprise us to know the quality of their products because of the strong family values they possess and promote. There is something about a family effort in the cigar industry, a certain kind of connection with the past if you will. I think that makes a big difference in the final product. The love and passion for quality premium cigars is something in their blood. Something that experience and experience only can really make a product great. When you look at the cigar industry, you seem to find that long family traditions of cigar making keep that spirit alive which makes all the difference in the world when it comes to the finished product. The Newman family is without a doubt one of those few remaining families that possess this kind of spirit and tradition of really knowing how to produce great cigars. If you get the chance to meet this family, I'm sure you will quickly sense their goodness; not only as great people, but also as great cigar producers.
